I designed this crewneck while studying at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) in the fall of 2013. I combined the popular "Keep Calm" phrase with the Danish culture's 'hygge': a concept that captures a feeling similar to that of coziness, warmth, and home. This saying and the cold, dark winter months influenced the symbol of the candle instead of a crown atop the words. This change was made after I noticed that Danes frequently kepy candles around their homes not only to keep warm and provide light, but also for a comforting presence. Of course the Danish look wouldn't be complete without their signature use of black clothing. Therefore the crewneck was made black and DIS' logo was placed at the bottom of the shirt, falling close to the hip, as if it were the label of a clothing brand such as Ralph Lauren or American Eagle.
